The System
Scael System technology is designed to stop the buildup of calcite (calcium carbonate or CaCO3) in pipes, plumbing fixtures, and other equipment that uses water. This is accomplished through a process by which the molecular crystal structure of the calcite molecules is altered, transforming them into more soluble, less adhesive compounds (called aragonite and vaterite). Not only does this process stop calcite buildup, it removes existing buildup that has accumulated over time. Water is a universal solvent. As it travels through the ground it collects minerals. Calcium carbonate is a chemical compound that is abundant in the earth's crust, most notably in limestone. Thus, water from underground sources can be replete with calcium carbonate. Calcite is the most common and stable form, or polymorph, of calcium carbonate.
Calcite is problematic because it has both adhesive properties and an inverse solubility curve. This means that when hard water leaves cold underground supply pipes and enters a warm building the calcite will precipitate out of solution and adhere to almost any surface. We have all seen the hard white substance sticking to faucets, bath fixtures, flatware, glassware, etc.
The Scael System creates a negative field. When a calcite molecule passes through this field it will change to aragonite or vaterite (two other polymorphs of calcium carbonate) which do not have the inverse solubility curve of calcite. Aragonite and vaterite do not precipitate out of solution. They flow through water systems converting existing calcite buildup then flow down the drain.
